The Largest XR Film Festival in Asia and Well-Known Global IPs Gather in Kaohsiung: 2025 TTXC Creates New Paradigms for Cultural Technology

The Ministry of Culture and the Kaohsiung City Government will co-host the TTXC 2025 Taiwan Technology x Culture Expo from October 10 to 26 at the Pier-2 Art Center. This year's event, themed "AI Synergy for Next Content Economy," echoes the global generative AI trend and features two main exhibition areas, "XR DREAMLAND" and "Innovations," along with over 30 industry events. Providing an international platform for cultural technology exchange, nearly one hundred top-tier domestic and international speakers and industry leaders have been invited to gather and discuss four core topics: special effects in film and television, immersive content, IP entertainment, and innovative venues.

The Ministry of Culture stated that TTXC is not just an exhibition, but also a key platform for upgrading Taiwan's cultural content and connecting it globally. This year features a special exhibition of the XR achievements from the "Taiwan Content Plan" project, showcasing breakthroughs by Taiwanese creators in both technology and narrative. A notable example is Lin Pei-ying's Happy Shadow, which won the Venice Film Festival's Fanheart3 Award for XR Fan Experience. This work, presented in a multi-user interactive VR format, guides the audience to accompany the character in confronting fear, thereby demonstrating the energy produced by the fusion of culture and technology.

The Kaohsiung City Government stated that in recent years, Kaohsiung has become a major hub for film, television, and cultural technology in southern Taiwan. Through TTXC, the city is being transformed into an immersive stage for cultural technology. "XR DREAMLAND," the largest XR film festival in Asia, curated by the Kaohsiung Film Festival, will present 35 cutting-edge works. Highlights include the multi-user free-roaming VR experience “Titanic: Echoes from the Past,” the MR work “Impulse: Playing with Reality” narrated by Tilda Swinton, and a 90-minute full VR interactive experience of the classic Japanese animation “Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom.”

Building on the enthusiastic response to last year’s Sanrio Virtual Festival, this year will also feature five VRChat concerts, a free experience offered exclusively by XR DREAMLAND. The Kaohsiung Film Archive and the Kaohsiung Museum of History have also collaborated to launch the “Guardians of Jade Mountain” VR special exhibition, which echoes the historical materials and artifacts on display. Taking audiences back to anthropologist Mori Ushinosuke's journey through Taiwan, it shows how immersive technology has become a new way to connect culture and history.

Another major highlight is the “INNOVATIONS” exhibition area, which is organized by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency. Titled “Cultural Tech Exchange,” it will be open for free at the Pier-2 Bicycle Warehouse from October 21 to 24. It showcases culturally and technologically innovative content with commercial and entertainment value, redefining the model of value creation in cultural content by bringing together the strengths of creators, technologists, and market operators, and driving the industry toward a more forward-looking and impactful future. The exhibition includes “Hungry” by Hylight Studio, a work that combines art design with a new form of glove puppetry and integrates VR technology to create an immersive experience, intertwining outdoor performances with the virtual glove puppetry world. JENN LEE’s “Fluid Future × Digital Fashion Sustainability & Innovation International Project” represents a cross-disciplinary fusion in fashion, bringing Taiwanese fashion technology onto the international luxury fashion stage. Adapted from the original Taiwanese animation IP “Luda” by Engine Studios in collaboration with Brogent Technologies, the IP has been transformed into an i-Ride flying theater experience. During TTXC, it will premiere at the Pier-2 Warehouse VOLARE Mobile Flying Theater, offering a brand-new narrative and immersive experience.

TTXC’s surrounding events connect and showcase the energy of local industries in Kaohsiung. Global leading flying-theater provider Brogent Technologies, in collaboration with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, presents the i-Ride flying theater experience. It also brings the “Flying Anime Festival” with a 20-meter giant dome screen, featuring immersive flying experiences of “Attack on Titan: The War Declaration” and “Ghost in the Shell.” By combining anime IP with cutting-edge technology, this showcases Kaohsiung’s international standing in immersive entertainment.

Another must-see work is “The Great Tipsy”, created by the experience design team “Surprise Lab” and supported by the Ministry of Digital Affairs. Set in the 825 square meters, four-story historic Kaohsiung Hamasen Trader Building, it offers a buzzworthy immersive experience. In collaboration with the digital experience team “ULTRACOMBOS”, AI interactive technology is integrated, launching a new model of immersive storytelling driven by cultural technology.

TTXC is a grand event and an experimental platform for looking toward the future. By combining exhibitions, interactive experiences, and forums, it promotes the deep integration of culture and technology while showcasing the power of Taiwan’s cultural technology to the world.
